VBAC or Vaginal Birth After Cesarean
Thank you for your interest in our services. We are sorry that primary VBAC is not a service that we can provide at this time. Florida law is very specific regarding VBACs. Florida set up a risk assessment system to determine who is and who is not a candidate for midwifery care. A primary or first time VBAC scores a 3 on our Risk Assessment form. Any score of 3 or above must be approved by an OBGYN with privileges in a local hospital.

A secondary VBAC (patient had a C-section, then had a vaginal birth and desires another vaginal birth) scores a 2 and does not require OBGYN approval. As a Licensed Midwifery practice, we can provide services for outside the birth center only (homebirth).

Birth Center law is written differently. Birth Center law states that any patient who has had any uterine surgery is not a candidate for birth center care. So the only way we will see a secondary VBAC is with the plan for a home birth.

We are currently accepting homebirth clients. If you have already had a successful VBAC, we would need a copy of your birth records for both the vaginal birth and the cesarean section. We are not accepting any primary VBACs at any time. Please contact ICAN for further information regarding healthcare for a primary VBACs.

Please do not call us for a list. This is not to be rude, but it is information we do not have readily available. There are some local midwives providing this service, and a few local OBGYNs as well. We will post a list of providers as soon as possible.
