Prenatal Care

Prenatal visits are scheduled:

Every 4 weeks until 28 weeks gestation, Every 2 weeks from 28 to 36 weeks, and weekly from 36 weeks until the birth. These visits occur in our office in Sanford.

At 28 Weeks Gestation:       

Perform routine prenatal appointment

Obtain a 1 hour post prandial blood sugar (finger stick) checking for gestational diabetes

Check Hemoglobin (same finger stick)

*Antibody Screen if Mom is Rh Negative blood type

Review Risk Screen

After this appointment, visits are every two weeks until 36 weeks gestation.

At each prenatal visit your midwife will check:

your weight, blood pressure, urine (for protein, glucose, ketones and nitrites), fundal height, palpate the position of the baby, listen to the baby's heart rate with a doppler or fetoscope, review your nutritional intake, discuss pregnancy management and family situations, and perform routine labwork.

At 36 Weeks Gestation:          

Perform routine prenatal appointment

Check Hemoglobin (finger stick), *Antibody screen if Rh Negative Mom

Review birth supply list

Inspect home for cleanliness and readiness for homebirth

Review Risk Screen

Review Postpartum instructions

Sibling Prep Class (if needed)

Review when to call midwife

After this appointment, visits are every week until labor has begun.
